Waterloo Man Arrested After Overnight Standoff

An arrest has been made following a standoff that took place overnight Tuesday night in Waterloo.  Waterloo Police were called to the 3600 block of Ravenwood Circle where dispatch had taken a report of a male banging on neighbors’ doors while also carrying a firearm. Officers found 38-year-old Jacob Van Riper with a handgun in the hallway of an apartment complex. Police ordered him to drop the gun, but Van Riper then went into one of the apartments. The Waterloo Police Tactical Team and negotiators were then called in to help assist in the situation. Van Riper left the apartment after a several hour standoff and was taken into custody.  Van Riper was arrested and charged with interference with a firearm, public intoxication, carrying weapon while intoxicated, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana with intent, drug tax stamp violation, and ineligible person carrying a firearm.
