Waterloo West high school athletic director Tom Ulses has provided an update on girls varsity basketball coach Dr. Tony Pappas. Ulses said Pappas is alert and communicating and that he continues to undergo testing and treatment.
The 69-year old Pappas suffered a medical emergency at practice last Tuesday and has been hospitalized since.
Pappas is in his 44th year as the girls basketball coach at West.
AJ Cassidy is currently serving as the Wahawks interim coach.
Waterloo West postponed its game at Iowa City West this past Friday, but is scheduled to host Cedar Rapids Washington tomorrow.
