Last night in Metro football, Class 1A top-ranked Grundy Center held off Waterloo Columbus, 21-14, at McLaughlin Field.
The Spartans used a pair of defensive touchdowns, including a 92-yard fumble return, to earn the win.
Grundy Center improves to 5-0, while the Sailors are now 3-2.
Yesterday in boys golf, Cedar Falls competed in a Mississippi Valley Conference quadrangular at the Airport National Golf Course in Cedar Rapids.
Dubuque Wahlert won the meet with a 254. Cedar Falls was runner-up with a 262.
Yesterday in boys and girls cross country, Cedar Falls, Waterloo West and Waterloo East all competed at the Jim Boughton Invitational hosted by Dubuque Senior.
In the boys race, Cedar Falls won the meet with a team score of 34 points. Pleasant Valley was 2nd with 46.
The Tigers Jaden Merrick won the meet with a time of 15 minutes, 8.6 seconds.
In the girls race, Dubuque Senior won the meet with 53 points. Cedar Falls finished 5th with 123.
Individually, Waterloo West’s Nakia Oliverre finished 2nd.
Last night in girls swimming and diving, Cedar Falls defeated Ankeny in a dual meet, 96-90.
