Cedar Falls boys & girls cross country, girls swimming & diving capture first-place finishes

The Cedar Falls Tigers cross country teams got off to strong starts to begin their season Saturday.

The Tiger boys and girls teams took first at the 16-team Cedar Rapids Prairie Invitational.

The Cedar Falls Boys team had six runners in the top-10, winning the meet with 21 points. Williamsburg was second with 57.

Tiger Sophomore Jaden Merrick won the meet with a time of 15 minutes and 47 seconds.

Cedar Falls won the girls meet with 21 points. The Tigers had 5 of the top 7 finishers. Monticello was runner up with 41.


The Cedar Falls girls swimming and diving team opened its season Saturday, taking first at the Dubuque Senior Ram Relays.

The Tigers won the meet with 96 points. Dubuque Senior was 2nd with 80. A total of seven schools participated.


The Cedar Falls volleyball team competed in the Ankeny Centennial Early Bird Invite Saturday.

The Tigers went just 1-2 in pool play, but battled back to win a pair of matches and the consolation round.

Cedar Falls will play its home opener tomorrow against Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
