The Metro High School Football teams began their season’s on Friday with Week 1 games.
Cedar Rapids Prairie jumped out to a 13-0 first half lead and held off 5A 5th-ranked Cedar Falls, 20-17.
Waterloo West pulled away to beat Waterloo East, 56-12. It was the 11th straight win for the Wahawks in the rivalry.
1A 7th-ranked Waterloo Columbus put together an impressive road performance, winning at Dyersville Beckman Catholic, 37-0.
And Springville spoiled Waterloo Christian’s inaugural game as the Orioles downed the Regents, 57-14.

Cedar Falls at home against Johnston.
Waterloo West at Dubuque Hempstead.
Waterloo East hosting Des Moines North.
Waterloo Columbus at home against Durant.
And Waterloo Christian plays Thursday at West Central.
