Grundy Center set to face Woodbury Central in Class A state football championship

The Grundy Center football team is going to back to the Class A state championship game.

The Spartans overpowered Woodbury Central 49-20 in a Class A Semifinal contest yesterday at the UNI-Dome.

Grundy Center scored 35 unanswered points after Woodbury Central had tied the game at 7 early in the 2nd quarter.

Spartans quarterback Colin Gordon had a big game, completing 16 of 23 passes and throwing for five touchdowns. Tight end Tiernan Vokes caught seven passes for 92 yards and three scores.

The Spartans will play in the Class A state title game for the fourth consecutive season next Thursday, November 17th at 1:00. Grundy Center will face top-ranked West Hancock. The Eagles defeated the Spartans 19-14 in last year’s championship game.

West Hancock downed Lynnville-Sully 22-14 in Class A’s other semifinal game played yesterday.
