The girls state soccer tournament got underway this morning in Des Moines with a pair of area schools in action.
In Class 1A, 6th-seeded Underwood surprised 3rd-seeded Dike-New Hartford, 4-2.
The Wolverines fell behind 3-0 in the second half but rallied to cut the lead to 3-2 with 5 minutes to play. Dike-New Hartford, which was making its first ever appearance at State, ends the year with a record of 16-2.
In 2A, defending state champion Waverly-Shell Rock held off North Scott, 3-1.
The 2nd-seeded Go-Hawks stormed out to a 2-0 lead at halftime and held on for the win. Waverly-Shell Rock improves its record to 17-1 and moves on to the semifinals, where it’ll take on Norwalk tomorrow afternoon at 12:45.
