The high school state volleyball tournament got underway in Class 3A, 2A and 1A yesterday with quarterfinal matches and several area schools were in action.
In 3A, top seed Des Moines Christian rallied after losing the first set to defeat Union in four sets.
In 2A, top seed and two-time defending state champion Dike-New Hartford rolled past Carroll Kuemper in three sets.
Hinton defeated Denver in four-sets.
Hull Western Christian came back to defeat Sumner-Fredericksburg in four sets.
And Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont surprised 3rd-seeded Wapsie Valley in four sets.
In 1A matches involving area teams,
Ankeny Christian swept Don Bosco in three sets.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck took down Holy Trinity in four sets.
And AGWSR stormed back to stun 2nd seeded North Tama in 5 sets.
