Sendoff For Iowa National Guard Soldiers Held

33 Guard Soldiers Being Deployed to Kosovo

Families in Waterloo and Cedar Falls said goodbye to some of their loved ones on Friday as members of  the Iowa National Guard deployed to Kosovo.  The ceremony happened at the Waterloo Army Aviation Support Facility. National Guard officials held a community send-off  to celebrate the deployment of Iowa’s National Guard. At the present time, 33 soldiers are being deployed to Kosovo, including those with Detachment 1. Company C (Medevac), 2-211th General Support Aviation Battalion.  They will first stopover for their training at Fort Cavazos, Texas  (formerly known as Fort Hood).  The deployment is part of a mission in Kosovo that supports a peacekeeping operation by NATO.  The soldiers will be there for at least nine months.
