Three area athletes contending at Iowa Amateur Golf Tournament in Des Moines

The final round of the Iowa Amateur Golf Tournament is taking place today in Des Moines and three area golfers are in the hunt for the title.

Charlie Hoyle of Coralville is the leader after the first two rounds with a 10-under par.

Two recent Cedar Falls graduates are right behind Hoyle. Owen Sawyer is one shot behind at 9-under, while Max Tjoa is 5-under.

Sawyer is set to begin his collegiate golf career at Iowa State this fall, while Tjoa will play at Iowa. 

Hogan Hansen of Waverly is just 6-shots off the lead at 4-under. Hansen just completed his freshman season as a member of the University of Iowa golf team. He won back-to-back Class 3A championships in 2021 and 2022 at Waverly-Shell Rock.
