The name of the Waterloo Arena League team will be the Waterloo Woo.
The announcement was made at Silver Eagle Harley Davidson on Wednesday. General Manager Bailey McRae said that name submissions were comprised of many variations of “woo” or “loo.” Ultimately, the name is a nod to the wrestling and railway history in eastern Iowa.
McRae says the next steps are to hire a new head coach and staff and get uniforms together before fielding a team.
McRae was asked why they decided on the Waterloo Woo for the team name.
The league is expected to start competition in June 2024, with three other teams in Duluth, Minnesota, and Kansas City and Springfield, Missouri. The Woo will play its home games at the Hippodrome on the National Cattle Congress Grounds.
