Waterloo West AD Dr. Anthony Pappas moving to new position within Waterloo Schools

WATERLOO — After serving 13 years as the West High Athletic Director and 42 years total as a teacher, coach, administrator, and Athletic Director at West High, Dr. Anthony Pappas will be taking on a new position within the Waterloo Schools Athletic Department for the 2022-2023 school year as the District Athletic Department Assistant, pending board approval.

In this new half-time position, Dr. Pappas will support the District’s Athletic Department and the newly created Middle School Athletics & Activities Coordinator. Among many things, this position will work to improve academic achievement for student athletes and increase opportunities for skill development and camps for Waterloo’s youth.

“Dr. Pappas has done an outstanding job as the West High Athletic Director and we look forward to him sharing his experiences and expertise to help support the growth of all of the Waterloo athletic programs,” stated Dan Huff, Waterloo Schools District Director of Athletics and Activities.

Dr. Pappas will continue to lead the West High girls’ basketball program where he is currently in his 42nd year as Wahawks head coach.

While he will remain head coach of the West High girls’ basketball program, the search to find a replacement for the position of West High Athletic Director will begin immediately.

Dr. Pappas will continue as the West High Athletic Director for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year and looks forward to helping to ensure a successful transition.

“I am excited to begin my new role with the Waterloo School District. I want to continue to work hard to improve all of our programs for all of our students,” said Dr. Pappas.
