Day one of the high school state wrestling tournament gets underway Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Two Cedar Valley schools are the favorites in their classes heading into Thursday’s action.
In 1A, Don Bosco is the favorite to repeat as state champion. The Dons have their largest contingent ever with 13-wrestlers competing. In 3A, Waverly-Shell Rock is the favorite. The Go-Hawks have all 14 wrestlers competing, a state record.
Thursday’s schedule : Class 2A 1st round competition gets underway at 9 a.m. Class 3A 1st round action begins at 1:30, and Class 1A’s 1st round begins tonight at 6.
Friday’s schedule: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. (estimated) Class 3A & 2A quarterfinals. 2:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. (estimated) Class 2A & 1A quarterfinals. 7:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. (estimated) Class 3A & 1A quarterfinals.
Saturday’s schedule: 10 a.m. – 2:15 p.m. (estimated) Semifinals & Consolations, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. (estimated) Championships
