Week 1 of the high school football season kicked off tonight and in games involving metro schools;

Cedar Falls lost at home to (5A) 4th-ranked Iowa City Liberty, 21-7,

Waterloo West defeated Waterloo East at the UNI-Dome, 31-6,

and Columbus Catholic fell at home to Beckman Catholic, 20-12.

In games involving area, ranked teams;

Aplington-Parkersburg snapped Grundy Center’s 38-game regular season winning streak, upsetting the (1A) 4th-ranked Spartans at home, 27-7,

(Class A) 4th-ranked Wapsie Valley won at Denver, 20-7,

(8P) 6th-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck won at Janesville, 56-6,

(8P) 8th-ranked Don Bosco lost at home to 2nd-ranked Iowa Valley, 60-25,

and (8P) 7th-ranked Clarksville fell at home to 5th-ranked Edgewood-Colesburg, 53-32.
