Cedar Falls natives lead 124th Iowa Amateur Golf Championship

The second round of the 124th Iowa Amateur Golf Championship took place yesterday at Beaver Hills Country Club in Cedar Falls and a pair of former Cedar Falls High School standouts are on top of the leaderboard.

Owen Sawyer is 8-under par after two rounds and holds a one-shot lead. Max Tjoa is one stroke back at seven under par.

Sawyer and Tjoa helped lead Cedar Falls to the Class 4A State Championship in 2021. Sawyer is currently a member of the Iowa State golf team, while Tjoa is on the Iowa Hawkeyes golf team.

Hogan Hansen, who prepped at Waverly-Shell Rock and won a pair of Class 3A individual State Championships, is six strokes back at two under par. Hansen is also a member of the Iowa Hawkeyes golf team.

The final round of the Iowa Amateur Golf Championship takes place today.
