Cedar Falls native Owen Sawyer wins 124th Iowa Amateur Golf Championship

The third and final round of the 124th Iowa Amateur Golf Championship wrapped up earlier this afternoon at Beaver Hills Country Club in Cedar Falls and former Cedar Falls Tiger standout Owen Sawyer finished 1st at 16-under par, 7 strokes better than 2nd-place finisher Nate McCoy of Ankeny.

Sawyer entered today’s final round at 8-under with a 1 stroke lead over his former Cedar Falls High School teammate, Max Tjoa.

Tjoa shot 1-over par 73 in today’s final round and finished in T4th.

Former Waverly-Shell Rock prep Hogan Hansen shot an even par 72 and finished T14th.

With his win, Sawyer is now qualified for the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship, which takes place August 10-16 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.
