Cedar Falls’ Owen Sawyer leads after 1st Round of Iowa Amateur Golf Championships

The 124th Iowa Amateur Golf Championships got underway Mondat at Beaver Hills Country Club in Cedar Falls. The event goes through Wednesday.

Former Cedar Falls High School standout Owen Sawyer leads after the 1st round with a 66. He has a one shot lead heading into today’s 2nd round.

Sawyer just finished his junior year at Iowa State. He led Cedar Falls to the 2021 4A State Championship and a runner-up finish in 2022. 

Max Tjoa, a high school teammate of Sawyer’s at Cedar Falls, is tied for 5th after a 1st round 69. Tjoa is entering his senior season with the Iowa Hawkeyes golf team.
