Four area schools compete at girls State Soccer Tournament

Four area schools were in action Monday at the girls State Soccer Tournament in Ames.

In Class 1A Quarterfinals,

Top-seed Denver rolled past Iowa Falls-Alden, 8-1. 

Addyson Shepard and Aubrey Jergens combined for five of the Cyclones’ goals. 

7-seed Aplington-Parkersburg upset 2-seed Davenport Assumption, 1-0, in overtime.

Kiarra Morris scored the game-winning goal for the Falcons, who are making their first-ever appearance at state. 

3-seed Hudson got past 6-seed Treynor, 1-0.

The Pirates Cailin Stickford scored the only goal of the game just three minutes into the match.

In Class 2A Quarterfinals,

7-seed North Polk upset 2-seed Waverly-Shell Rock, 2-1.

Linde Hubbard scored the only goal for the Go-Hawks. Waverly-Shell Rock finishes the year, 15-2-1.  

In Class 1A Semifinals on Thursday,

Denver takes on St. Alberts at Noon

And NICL rivals Hudson and Aplington-Parkersburg square off at 12:15.
