Cedar Falls wins Class 4A State Boys Basketball Tournament Championship
The Cedar Falls high school boys basketball team overcame a 17-point deficit to win the Class 4A State Tournament Championship, 56-48, over Johnston at Casey’s Center in Des Moines this evening.
Johnston led the Tigers 22-7 at the end of the first quarter and by a game-high 17 points at 31-14 with 2:49 to play in the second quarter.
Cedar Falls began its comeback in the third quarter, outscoring the Dragons 15-3 over the eight minutes to trail 37-36 entering the fourth.
The Tigers saved their best play for the final eight minutes, outscoring Johnston 20-11 in the fourth quarter with the game’s go-ahead basket coming from senior forward Will Gerdes with 4:09 to play. Senior forward Leyton Wolf provided the dagger for Cedar Falls, hitting a long 3 with 1:52 remaining to extend the lead to 50-43.
Gerdes led the Tigers with 19 points and was joined in double figures by Jaydon Kimbrough and Wolf who each scored 13. Carsen Gary added six points while Parker Berns finished with five.
Cedar Falls finishes its 2025-2026 season a perfect 25-0.
