Former Cedar Falls prep, Iowa State junior Owen Sawyer wins Iowa Amateur Golf Championship

Iowa State junior Owen Sawyer won the 123rd Iowa Amateur Men’s Golf Championship in dominating fashion.

The Cedar Falls native finished with a 203 and was one of just eight players to finish the tournament under par.

In addition to finishing under par, Sawyer’s 12-under was eight strokes better than the three-way tie for second-place.

The victory earned Sawyer an exemption to the 125th U.S. Amateur, set for August 11th through the 17th in San Francisco.
