Three area teams to play in high school football championship games this week

The state high school football championship games are set. Action will take place in all seven classes this Thursday and Friday and three area schools will be competing.

In the 8-Player Championship,

Gladbrook-Reinbeck (11-1) takes on Remsen St. Mary’s (12-0) Thursday morning at 9:30.

It’s the first 8-Player championship game appearance for G-R. The Rebels last state title was in 2016 when they were in Class A.

In the Class 1A Championship,

A pair of area schools collide as top-ranked and defending state champion Grundy Center (12-0) takes on Dike-New Hartford (11-1) Thursday afternoon at 4.

The Spartans are looking to cap off their third straight undefeated season and third consecutive state title.

The Wolverines are going for their first state title since 1981. A D-NH win against Grundy Center would avenge their only loss this season.
