Fleeing Teen Jumps Into Cedar River To Escape Cedar Falls Police

A 19-year-old, who was trying to run away from police, jumped into the Cedar River in Cedar Falls to avoid getting arrested late Monday morning.  Around 11:40 AM, Cedar Falls Police officers had been checking the area around Island Park for an individual who was wanted by outside Iowa agencies. When officers arrived, 19-year-old Trinity Allen Shafer of Barnes City, Iowa was located, but he took off running and jumped into the Cedar River. Officers then deployed a ResQ Disc and Shafer then got a hold of the disc after officers gave instructions. After being pulled to shore, Shafer was arrested and charged with probation revocation from Jones County, and a warrant for assault while displaying a dangerous weapon from Ottumwa police.
