Iowa AG: Waterloo Officer-Involved Shooting Legally Justified

The Iowa Attorney General’s office has concluded that the Waterloo officer-involved shooting of 41-year old John Carl Piazza on March 25th was legally justified. Piazza had visited a hospital to seek help for anxiety, but then left the facility, saying that he wanted to kill something. He then went to Kuennen’s Automotive Clinic on Falls Avenue demanding to see the owner, who was not there. Piazza fired a weapon in the shop, then later returned with a shotgun. He aimed the shotgun out of the shop window at an officer. An officer fired a single shot, hitting Piazza in the head and killing him.
