The girls high school State Soccer Tournament kicked off this morning in Des Moines with a pair of area schools competing.
In a Class 1A quarterfinal, top-seed Des Moines Christian used a pair of last-second goals to defeat Hudson, 2-0. The Pirates finish their season with a 13-3 record.
In a Class 2A quarterfinal, top-seed Waverly-Shell Rock rolled past 8-seed North Polk, 4-1.
The Go-Hawks led 2-0 at halftime and built a 4-0 lead late in the game. Waverly-Shell Rock improved to 17-1 this season and will play Pella in the semifinals tomorrow afternoon at 12:30.
