Area teams play well on Day 1 of high school boys State Golf Tournament

Day one of the boys State High School Golf Tournament took place yesterday in Ames.

Here’s how area schools fared;

In Class 3A, Waverly-Shell Rock is in 7th-place with a 339, 20 shots behind leader M-O-C-Floyd Valley. Sophomore Wes Hubbard has the best individual score for the Go-Hawks with an 80. He’s currently tied for 11th.

In Class 2A, Grundy Center is in first-place with a score of 296, 10 strokes better than 2nd place Beckman Catholic. Hudson is in 3rd place with a 307.

Grundy Center freshman Judd Jirovsky is the 2A individual leader as he fired an 8-under 63 for an 8-shot lead, carding seven birdies and an eagle.

Hudson’s Caleb Ham, Oliver Thompson and Brady Hanson are all tied for 4th-place with a 75.

And in Class 1A, CAM is the leader with a 335, while AGWSR is in 8th-place, ten strokes back with a 345.

The tournament finishes up today.
