Special Elections On Tap Tuesday

Voters will be going to the polls today in Black Hawk County on a number of issues. Hawkeye Community College is hoping voters will support a $35 million bond referendum to renovate and expand existing college facilities to add a STEM learning center and support career training programs for construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, automotive and diesel technology programs and build a new law enforcement training center.   Voters in Gilbertville will decide on a $1.25 million bond to build a new emergency services building for the town. Voters in Waterloo’s 4th Ward will go to the polls to vote on a successor to departed councilman Jerome Amos, who left for the Iowa House 62 seat in January. Rev. Lawrence Marshall, and Rev. Belinda Creighton-Smith, are both vying for that ward seat, which the winner will fill until December. Polls open at 7:00AM this morning and close tonight at 8:00PM.
