Inaugural sanctioned High School Girls State Wrestling Tournament begins today

The first ever sanctioned High School Girls State Wrestling Tournament begins this morning at Xtream Arena in Coralville.

It’s the first state tournament run by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, but is the fifth straight girls state championship event, as The Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association had hosted a girls state tournament the last four years.

Going into today’s tournament Decorah has the most qualifiers with ten, while Cedar Falls and Waverly-Shell Rock each have nine.

Action begins this morning at 9 and goes through tomorrow. Listen to The Fan throughout the tournament for periodic reports on metro & area athletes in competition.
