Waterloo, Iowa – January’s arrival means there is a new featured cause which will benefit from the $16.50 Campaign, as Slumberland Furniture, 1650 The Fan, and the Waterloo Black Hawks draw attention to the Dave Aumer Memorial Scholarship Fund.
After each high school hockey season, the Dave Aumer Memorial Scholarship is presented to one or more deserving Waterloo Warriors senior players. 1650 radio listeners and Black Hawks fans are encouraged to donate $16.50 to the scholarship fund, which was created in memory of Aumer, a youth advocate and supporter of Warriors hockey. Seniors who are in good team standing, have maintained a 2.5 grade point average or better, and plan to attend an accredited post-secondary institution (full- or part-time), are eligible. The scholarship fund is managed by the Waterloo Community Foundation.
“By the time they are seniors, Warrior players have often been part of the community’s youth hockey program for 10 years or more, and in that time, they will have learned lessons about discipline and determination that will help them long after they finish playing competitively,” said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene. “These scholarships help direct those intangible skills towards higher education. Hopefully today’s seniors will soon be doing important jobs in their chosen fields here in the Cedar Valley.”
The Dave Aumer Memorial Scholarship Fund has benefit from the $16.50 Campaign during each of the four years that the effort has been presented by Slumberland Furniture.
The goal is for 100 people or more to donate the manageable amount of $16.50 each month during hockey season, providing a bigger lift than any of those individuals could provide by themselves.
