The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union approved guidance yesterday that will allow student-athletes to earn compensation on the use of their Name, Image, and Likeness, or, N-I-L.
Iowa becomes the 15th state to approve high school N-I-L, which was instituted at the collegiate level nationwide last year.
The Athletic Association and Girls Union says it’s allowed as long as it’s not contingent on an athlete’s performance and won’t be used to lure students to attend a particular school.
The potential compensation can’t be provided by a school or agent of the school.
