Northeast Iowa Conference invites five schools

At least five schools have been invited to join the Northeast Iowa Conference after Waverly-Shell Rock was voted out of the conference last week.

Last Friday, the NEIC Executive Board voted to have the Go-Hawks exit the conference after June 30th of 2023.

New Hampton Superintendent Jay Jurrens introduced the resolution citing that the Go-Hawks had grown larger than the other NEIC schools, creating competitive imbalance.

This week, letters to join the Northeast Iowa Conference were sent to Osage, North Fayette Valley, Sumner-Fredericksburg, MFL Mar-Mac, and Oelwein.

The invitation did not include a time frame for the invited schools to respond, but officials would like to have a decision in time for expansion for the start of the 2023-24 school year.
