The Northeast Iowa Conference superintendents voted 5-1 today to remove Waverly-Shell Rock from the conference after the 2022-23 school year.
Charles City, Crestwood, Waukon, New Hampton and Decorah voted for the resolution while Waverly-Shell Rock voted against it.
The New Hampton and Waukon school boards voted to continue the proposal to remove Waverly-Shell Rock from the Northeast Iowa Conference earlier this week, which set the table for the final vote among superintendents.
New Hampton’s resolution argued that Waverly-Shell Rock has grown so much larger than some schools in the NEIC, now to about three-times the size of New Hampton, that it has created competitive imbalance. The move is also considered a necessity for possible future conference expansion.
