Metro & Area high school football round-of-16 playoff preview

The Round of 16 of the State High School Football Playoffs will take place tonight in all classes.

A pair of metro schools will be competing. 

In a 5A match-up, Cedar Falls will be on the road as they play at Pleasant Valley. 

The Tigers are 6-3, while the Spartans are 7-2. This is just the third all-time meeting between the two schools and the first since 2013.

And this evening in a Class 1A playoff contest, Waterloo Columbus is at Sigourney-Keota.

The Sailors are 7-2, and coming off a First Round playoff win over Aplington-Parkersburg.

Sigourney-Keota is undefeated at 9-0. The Cobras defeated Columbus last year in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.

In other High School Football Playoff games tonight involving area ranked schools:

In 4A, 3rd ranked Waverly-Shell Rock will host Cedar Rapids Washington.

In 3A, Number-9 Independence plays at 7th ranked Benton Community

In 1A, 4th ranked Dike-New Hartford is at home against Pella Christian.

And in playoff games in Class A, 2nd ranked Grundy Center will host Earlham and 8th ranked North Butler will travel to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.
