Waterloo, Iowa – Black Hawks fans contributing to the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture, will be giving homeless pets at the Cedar Bend Humane Society a new opportunity for adoption during the month of April.
Each month during hockey season, the Black Hawks, 1650 The Fan (KCNZ-AM) and Slumberland Furniture in Cedar Falls spotlight a worthwhile cause in the Cedar Valley, encouraging fans and listeners to make a donation. The Cedar Bend Humane Society places thousands of animals in “forever homes” each year. Recently, the organization introduced a its “Second Chances: A New Leash on Life” program in a partnership with Rock River Pet Resort in Waverly. Through Second Chances, CBHS aims to help shelter dogs that are overly fearful, struggle with anxiety, are excessively energetic, or have unique behavior issues. Dogs that have been at the shelter the longest are prime candidates, as they are often passed over for so long due to behavioral issues. Each dog selected for the two week course participates at a cost of approximately $500, paid for by donations to the Humane Society.
“During the past year, millions and millions of otherwise isolated people have found comfort and companionship from the pets in their lives,” said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene. “Even in better times, we can all appreciate the work CBHS does to connect animals that need people with people who need animals.”
As part of the $16.50 Campaign, the goal is for 100 Black Hawks fans to make a modest contribution of $16.50 to the Dave Aumer Memorial Scholarship Fund during the month of March. If that goal is achieved, collectively fans will have the opportunity to take pride in an impactful total gift of $1,650 at month’s end.
