Waterloo, Iowa – Between the beginning of this week and Friday night when the Waterloo Black Hawks take the ice for their next game, the Northeast Iowa Food Bank will help approximately 5,000 people who otherwise would go hungry. During February, contributions to the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture will support the Food Bank and the region’s food insecure families.
The Northeast Iowa Food Bank estimates that each dollar donated can provide four meals. With a network of local food pantries and an array of programs focused on children, the elderly, and other segments of the population dealing with hunger, the Northeast Iowa Food Bank is efficiently able to offer nutritional assistance serving an average of 5,800 people each week.
As part of the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture, the objective is for 100 Waterloo Black Hawks fans and 1650 The Fan-listeners to make a modest contribution of $16.50 to a featured charitable organization each month. If that goal is achieved, collectively fans will have the opportunity to take pride in an impactful total gift of $1,650 at month’s end.
“The circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic mean that more people than ever have been reaching out to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, many for the first time,” said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene. “It has been almost a year since the coronavirus began to affect all of our lives, and as much as we all want to get back to normal, this is the time when we need to be on the lookout for ways to help those who are most vulnerable.”
