$16.50 Campaign Supports Americans for Independent Living during December

Waterloo, Iowa – The $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture, the Waterloo Black Hawks and “The Fan” KCNZ 1650-AM will encourage donations to Cedar Valley-based Americans for Independent Living during the month of December.

Americans for Independent Living was established to offer transitional housing with supportive services to veterans experiencing homelessness.  These services include providing necessities like shelter, clothing, and furniture. AFIL also makes home modifications for former servicemen and women with disabilities.

“The Black Hawks were first introduced to Americans for Independent Living in 2016, and we have watched the organization grow tremendously in a short time due to the determination and commitment of some very dedicated volunteers,” said Joe Greene, Black Hawks president of business operations.  “We are very pleased to be bringing additional attention – and hopefully contributions – to AFIL through the $16.50 Campaign.”

Today’s announcement follows the team’s commitment earlier this week to donate profits from an auction of patriotic jerseys to Americans for Independent Living.  Black Hawks players will wear the special uniforms, sponsored by American Pattern & CNC Works, during games on Friday, December 3rd and Saturday, December 4th, both against the Sioux Falls Stampede.  The auction will immediately follow Saturday’s game.

As part of the $16.50 Campaign, hockey fans and 1650 listeners are encouraged to donate $16.50 each month during hockey season to a designated charitable organization.  The goal is for 100 people to each make that manageable contribution and together provide a bigger lift than any of them could make individually.  To make a donation before or after this weekend’s games at Young Arena, visit waterlooblackhawks.com/1650.
