January $16.50 Campaign Announced For The Salvation Army

Waterloo, Iowa – When many people each make a small contribution, it can have a big impact.  That’s the inspiration for a new partnership between Slumberland Furniture, 1650 The Fan, and the Waterloo Black Hawks during the 2019/20 hockey season.

Friday, the Black Hawks revealed details about the new $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture.  Each month during the Hawks’ schedule, a different local charitable organization will be spotlighted.  Fans will be introduced to the non-profit during Black Hawks radio broadcasts on 1650, The Fan, and encouraged to make a contribution in the amount of $16.50 before the month ends. If 100 fans make that manageable donation each month, they will all have the opportunity to take pride in an impactful collective gift of $1,650 at month’s end.

“For years, Slumberland Furniture has taken a prominent role alongside the Black Hawks in our charitable efforts, and this new campaign re-channels Slumberland’s enthusiasm for serving the community,” said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene, adding, “1650, The Fan, has been our radio partner for two decades, and community service is a strong part of their culture, so this was an opportunity which was a perfect fit all around.”

The fourth organization which will receive proceeds from the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture, will be The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls.

The bells and red kettles have been put away for the season, but The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls is still collecting donations to support its year-round mission of helping vulnerable families in northeast Iowa, and during the month of January, you can help through $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture.

The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls provides a wide variety of services: sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry, creating recreational activities for youth, responding to disaster situations, and more.  The organization has raised approximately 75 percent of its $601,000 goal for the annual winter Red Kettle Campaign, which it is trying to reach by the end of January.  This month, donations via the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture, will help The Salvation Army achieve that winter target.

As part of the $16.50 Campaign, the goal is for 100 Black Hawks fans to make a modest contribution of $16.50 to The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls during the month of January.  If that goal is achieved, collectively fans will have the opportunity to take pride in an impactful total gift of $1,650 at month’s end.

“The holidays are over, and the audible reminders from those ringing bells are done,” said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene.  “Now we’re asking Black Hawks fans to remember that The Salvation Army is out there making a difference all the time.  Help them do that and reach their holiday goal by joining us during January’s $16.50 Campaign.”
